Hitting the Pavement Rowing
As a sculler who is used to being on the river from May through November, I found it difficult to confine myself to an indoor, stationary machine when I was unable to row outside. To me, being indoors is the most boring way to workout. I do have an ERG but I rarely get on it because I found the Rowbike six years ago and it was the perfect solution to my problem.
I love rowing on the water—it’s very peaceful and you hardly realize that you are working out because it’s so enjoyable. I’ve found that using the Rowbike has the same benefits. I use it during the rowing season when the winds are too high to be in the boat, or if it’s too drizzly. Typically, I try to use the Rowbike three to five days a week. I especially enjoy my rowls when I can visit a National park near my home that is right on the ocean.
I find that water rowing and using the Rowbike are very similar but different at the same time. Similar in the fact that you use balance skills, build up your strength, exercise outdoors and work as hard or as little as you would like. It’s different because with the Rowbike, you are going forward instead of back. The stroke is also a bit different, but this has its advantages as it’s easier to modify the workout if you would like.
It’s such a great thing to be able to row on land. It helps me stay strong and has helped me recover from some health issues, including back surgery. I love my Rowbike!
